Turkey & Syria Earthquake February 2023
With more than 30,000 who have perished in Turkey alone, the 7.8 Richter scale earthquakes also left thousands without homes in over 10 areas of South Eastern Turkey on February 6th, 2023. Disaster Aid Europe is raising funds to purchase needed supplies /winter tents, sleeping bags, blankets, heaters, and hygiene products, which will be delivered to the Turkish Embassy in Prague, as requested, for onward flights to Turkey to the earthquake victims. Disaster Aid Europe, a project of Rotary Club Prague International, is seeking donations to provide humanitarian aid (water filters and generators) for Ukraine, some of which we have taken in our trailer across the Slovak/Ukrainian border to local Rotarians in Uzhorod, Ukraine for further inland transport. Disaster Aid Europe’s mission is to assist Lebanese Rotary & Rotaract Clubs in helping and supporting the rebuilding of communities severely affected by the 4th August 2020 explosion in Beirut. 300,000 homes were destroyed causing homelessness and many have homes with no windows and doors as well as other damage.
On December 29th, 2020, the Croatian towns of Petrinja, Sisak, and Glina (some 40kms from Zagreb) and surrounding villages were hit by a 6.2 earthquake, damaging buildings, roads, infrastructure, and claiming several lives. People have lost their homes, places of work and their businesses.
